We have always prided ourselves on our open approach to acquiring new authors. From day one, Eve has accepted unsolicited manuscripts and has found best-selling authors this way.

However, looking at our client list overall, we realise that we have discovered most of our successful authors through literary journals, creative writing courses, writing groups, magazines, short story competitions, and through literary consultants. Therefore, we have decided to close our adult fiction and non-fiction submissions procedure to allow more time to fruitfully explore some of the wonderful literature out there. Keep your eye on our Twitter for any updates to this.

We are still keeping our children’s submission email address open, however, and will be accepting all picture books, middle-grade fiction, teen and YA books according to the details below.

If you are writing for adults, here are some ways you can catch our eye: submit a short story to a journal, join a writing course or group, or contact a literary consultant. If you are already a member of a group, please Tweet at us so that we can share information with new writers.

Submitting work for Children and Young Adults

(By email only)

Please send submissions to

Please don’t send any general correspondence or questions about submissions to this address: only children’s fiction samples. Read this page thoroughly and see our FAQs before making any enquiries.

If you have a query about submitting, send it to the address on our contacts page. However, it is much better just to send a sample.

Please send one email with just one attachment:

The three opening chapters (double line spaced) and a very brief synopsis of the whole plot (no more than 400 words) together in one WORD DOCUMENT. Please do a title page and number the pages in case we decide to print it.

For picture books please send us a Word document or PDF with the full text (double line spaced).

We receive hundreds of submissions each month and request the full manuscript from only a handful of authors.

We do reply to everybody. We will usually be able to make a decision about your work within three to four weeks, but we do occasionally get an influx, so bear with us if you are waiting slightly longer.

Phone calls

Like most literary agents, we prefer not to receive enquiries by telephone. This enables us to keep the administration down, giving us time to look at everything that is sent to us. Please read this page and the FAQs carefully before asking us any questions.

As a twenty-first century literary agency, we insist on being ‘green’ (and saving authors’ money) by asking for email submission. The section below outlines our process.

Please remember that all samples of writing should be sent as attachments, either as a word document. We will not read work sent in on Sky drive or anything else using cloud storage.

It is helpful to join a writers’ group in your area. Writers meet to read and discuss each other’s work.
