We are currently reading literary and commercial fiction and non-fiction for adults, and children's fiction for 7+. We do not accept poetry, short stories or screenplays. We receive hundreds of submissions each month and request the full manuscript from only a handful of authors. We have reading sessions every four weeks, and will reply to everyone (who supplies postage or email) very soon afterwards. At particularly busy times, some submissions get left until the following session. This means that the longest it should ever take for you to hear back from us is two months. Like most literary agents, we prefer not to receive enquiries by telephone. This enables us to keep the administration down, giving us time to look at everything that is sent to us. Please read this page and FAQ carefully before asking us any questions. Unlike most literary agents, we are experimenting in being 'green' (and saving authors money) by asking for SUBMISSION OF WORK FOR ADULTS - by email only Please send one email with just one attachment. The attachment: three chapters (double line spaced) and a very brief synopsis (with a word-count of the complete book) together in one WORD DOCUMENT. The email: your covering letter should be in the body of the email and be as short as possible. It should include a little about the book and a little about yourself. Send submissions to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please don't send any general correspondence or questions about submissions to this address: only adult book samples. Read this page thoroughly and see FAQ before asking making any enquiries. Thank you. US and Australian authors should look closer to home for representation unless there is a very good reason for needing a UK agent. SUBMISSION OF WORK FOR CHILDREN - post only Please send three chapters (double spaced), a very brief synopsis and word-count, and a covering letter with biography. Please include your email address but do not submit by email. You should also enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope if you live in the UK. Please mark your envelope 'CHILDREN'. This is very important; failure to do so will send your submission to the wrong pile and delay the process. At the moment our list is full for authors of picture books, and short fiction and non-fiction for readers under seven; sadly, we will not be reading work of this nature until further notice. Children's literary agents are listed in The Children's Writers' & Artists' Yearbook. Children's Submissions Checklist:Mark envelope: "CHILDREN"
Advice: For manuscript assessment and editorial advice you could send your manuscript to a literary consultant. One consultancy we recommend is Cornerstones, another is The Literary Consultancy. Please mention that you were recommended by us. For further advice see 'Advice for Authors' (click on 'Submissions' tab) or click on the FAQ tab. Please do not phone us with a question without checking FAQs first. Thank you.
