Mr Gum and the Power Crystals

Andy Stanton author of Mr Gum and the Power Crystals revisited his mischievious childhood when he was

...interviewed by Ed Wood at We Love This Book...

Ed questioned Andy about his memories from childhood and what books he most enjoyed reading. Books were Andy's constant companions and he drew on a plethora of children's books from Mr Men to Roald Dahl, Enid Blyton and Joan Aitken. He cited Jaws by Peter Benchley as the first grown-up book he read, believing that 'children should be encouraged to read whatever appeals to them.'

When asked about the ways in which he draws on his own childhood experiences now, as a writer, Andy said: 'Sometimes I try to think back and harness the excitement of being eight or nine, when everything felt incredibly important and vital and pure, and summer nights lasted forever with the dust motes hanging in the air.'

Andy ended the interview by assuring that, should children come along, he will spend the first year of their lives quizzing them on Mr Men characters.
