The article draws on psychological research that highlights development through simple slapstick, to toilet humour and then the more sophisticated word play. Andy also assures us that the humour in his novels does not go unappreciated by his younger readers; they particularly enjoy his 'randomness', strange word play and creative similes. On this point it seems Andy won't be keeping 'as silent as an avocado'.
