A thrilling, brand-new adventure story - with an ecological edge. Dad
looked at us solemnly. "We've been sent here by a very important
international organization to engage in undercover surveillance."
Tommo and I sat up. Had we heard right? "You mean you're spies?" gasped Thomas.
When Mr and Mrs Pickford announce that they are moving the family to a
lighthouse on a deserted island, Polly and her brother Tommo, think
their parents have "finally flipped". Until they learn the truth: their
mum and dad are spies, working to expose the illegal smuggling of
endangered species.
The risks are high, but it is not until a
suspicious stranger is shipwrecked on their island, and Polly and Tommo
make a horrifying discovery, that they realize just how much danger the
family is in...

The cave was set in the cliff face, above the beach. On one side of the cave, the shingle-covered rocks sloped down to the beach, but the other was overlooking a sheer drop down to the sea where a channel ran under the cliff, and where the seals swam when the tide was high. Thomas slowly walked the man to the entrance overlooking the drop. ‘Jump!’ he ordered, pointing the gun at him. The man looked down at the drop below. ‘Blimey! I can't swim, mate!’ he whimpered. ‘Jump!’ Thomas shouted furiously. ‘Jump! I'll shoot if you don't!’ The man cowered away from the gun, shaking his head and moaning. ‘I daren't – I'm afraid of heights... I'm...’ Suddenly I saw his expression change and his eyes widen as he saw something, behind Thomas. And then it all happened so fast. ‘Behind you!’ I screamed and Thomas turned to see the shadow of the second man looming up, gun pointing. With a frantic effort Thomas lifted the rifle he was holding high above his head, and chucked it out of the cave, down into the sea. The first man yelled with fury, tried to catch the rifle, missed, staggered back and fell, screaming into the water below. The man with the gun lurched past Thomas with a grunt of astonishment. ‘Quick, Pol!’ shouted Thomas, grabbing my hand, and we raced out of the cave, sliding and slipping down the slope and across the beach.Buy Operation Lighthouse online at Amazon
