The monster was staring at him. Its evil eyes flashed yellow and its fangs dripped with slime. Billy Johnson didn't know what to do. His palms were covered in sweat and his heart was pounding. He had thought this was the way out. He had thought he would be safe. He had thought wrong. The monster smiled and swished it's long black tail. Shadows danced all around. The light bulb flickered once, twice and then went out. Billy was alone in the half light. Alone with the monster. Slowly his eyes adjusted to the gloom. The monster was walking towards him, scraping its claws down the filthy, stained walls of the blood splattered corridor. It narrowed its eyes, smiled a terrible smile and revealed a row of razor sharp teeth. It's not supposed to end like this, thought Billy, I'm supposed to be good at this sort of thing, I'm supposed to be able to figure things like this out. He looked into the monster's hard yellow eyes. There was a lever just behind its back. Maybe he should pull it. If he could dart through its legs or dodge round the side he could grab it. He took a step closer. He could almost feel the monster's breath on his cheek. He would have to be quick. He was small, that would help. "Come on!" he hissed at the monster, "Make your move." The monster growled. Its spines rippled like a sea of knives. It was tensing itself, getting ready to pounce. It's now or never thought Billy and in an instant he was running down the corridor. He jumped off one of the walls, hoping to leap through the gap between the monster's shoulder and the wall. The monster saw what he was doing and stretched out a big green arm. Thick black claws glinted in the gloom. Billy was flying through the air, he could see the lever just inches from his outstretched fingertips. The monster swiped once, twice, and then it was over. Billy landed with a thud on the sticky wet floor and watched helplessly as the monster towered over him. The last thing he saw was the gloop of saliva that dribbled from the corner of the monster's green, scaly mouth and landed with a splash on his cheek. Billy Johnson was dead. "That was rubbish!" snorted Simon Wicklow snatching the controller from Billy's hands, "You're not going to beat a monster by running straight at it are you?"
