Eve WhiteABOUT EVE WHITE I really consider myself very lucky. I know it's a cliché but I love this job; being a literary agent has developed into a passion. There is so much literary talent out there that it is often hard to know where to start and of course every book is a challenge as the standards required to get a book published are so high.
For me, the job begins and ends with my authors. I think of it as a journey we make together. It is so satisfying to see a hitherto unknown author get a first book published and find recognition for the hundreds of hours of work that has gone into it. All of my authors have made a journey and have their own story to tell but I like to think that their success is, in part, a result of the team-work that I try to develop between them, myself and the publisher.
I wasn't always a literary agent. I come from a musical and theatrical family and it seems all of us are in some way connected to the arts. I did a degree in Education at South Bank University and then taught English and drama and, at the same time, ran a theatre company, writing and directing plays. I then became an actress and worked in television for several years. As a result I have good experience of being on the other side of the fence! So I hope I know what it takes to be a good agent.
I set up the Agency in 2003 and it is now well established. We look after many talented authors and deal with all the main publishing houses both in the UK and abroad.
I have now developed a list of clients who write for adults and children and, along with readers, Rachel Leyshon and Margaret Histed, am looking for exciting fiction and non-fiction by new and established writers.
